G-Wallet Launches & Twitter Trumps The Frontrow

Twitter was in the spotlight again yesterday as Burberry utilised the platform’s ability to deliver real time coverage of events.  The fashion house’s ‘Tweetwalk’ saw followers of their Twitter page gaining a first look at the new 2012 collection before catwalk spectators with snaps of models before they walked the catwalk posted to Twitter. It follows a growing trend for high-end fashion houses using social media and new technology to showcase new collections.

Google has launched its first platform for Google Wallet and has announced it is partnering up with Visa too.  The move will see NFC payments made possible with users able to link their credit card to their smart phone.

Google+ API Launches

Google+ released its long awaited API to developers yesterday.  Google’s official statement on the release stated: “Google+ gives users full control over their information, supporting everything from intimate conversations with family to public showcases and debates,” the company said. “This initial API release is focused on public data only–it lets you read information that people have shared publicly on Google+.”

A new documentary charting the breadth of Twitter’s impact on society released a teaser trailer which shows people from a stock broker to a homeless person commenting on Twitter’s influence in their life.  The film is being entered to several film festivals and is due for release through special screenings later this year, however it has been made in the spirit of the open web and will streamed on the internet for free too.

A slew of new studies prove the growing strength of mobile; a Pew study this week found 28% of Americans actively use mobile location services while an Ovum report found mobile app downloads are on the rise, set to top 18b downloads worldwide by the close of the year.

New marketing data presented at a Mobile conference this week shows mobile ads are more effective than other advertising mediums and Twitter announces it has 100m active users who check into the site at least once a month.
